We want you to stay connected! We know not everyone who supports the Coalition works every day in this field, and we want you to be in the know. With that in mind, here are just a few of the things that Coalition folks have been thinking about the last little while.
First, we were filled with grief and rage in hearing of the death of Charleena Lyles. We’re incredibly grateful to have some fierce people in this work, willing to speak out and take a stand on this tragedy. Here are a few responses from our community:
Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence Statement
API Chaya Statement
NW Network Statement
Solid Ground Statement
Coalition Statement
Second, DeAnn, the Coalition’s Transformative Justice & Prevention Coordinator, recently hosted a Shop Talk on Transformative Justice. Presenters from API Chaya, Priya and KP, had a wealth of knowledge and ideas and conversation starters to push our community towards liberation, not incarceration. Check out this article, one of the many resources they shared: INCITE! Women of Color Against Violence and Critical Resistance: Statement on Gender Violence and the Prison Industrial Complex
If you’re wanting to hear about people’s experiences, or looking for ways to support someone in your own life, check out stories from the StoryTelling and Organizing Project.
If you’re looking to learn more about Transformative Justice and Community Accountability, from a member organization’s perspective, check out this article by Kiyomi Fujikawa, originally shared in 2014.
