As we reflect on a tumultuous year and look towards 2017 with hope and uncertainty, we wonder: how do we stay positive and engaged with our clients, our colleagues, and our community? At the upcoming Coalition Annual Meeting, Seattle Councilmember Lorena González will speak to this issue —maintaining hope and optimism in tumultuous times. We invite our members to join us and participate in this opportunity to get focused and energized as we push forward in our work to end gender-based violence and promote safe and equitable relationships.
For us at the Coalition, it’s our community that keeps us motivated. At the Annual Meeting, we’ll present two community awards:
– the Ginny NiCarthy Excellence in Advocacy Award for an outstanding, innovative, and visionary community-based advocate working to support survivors and end gender-based violence, will be awarded to Ginny Ware, in honor of her 30 year anniversary at New Beginnings.
– the Norm Maleng Public Policy & Systems Change Award for public officials, professionals, or individuals who have helped create policies and change systems to improve safety and support for survivors and/or ensure greater accountability for people who engage in violent and abusive behavior. The 2017 award will go to Northwest Immigrant Rights Project.
Other items on the agenda include: board elections, voting on a new Coalition racial justice value, and celebrating the accomplishments we’ve made together in 2016!
If you are a member or part of a member organization, register for the 2017 Annual Meeting today. We’d love to have you join us.
