On August 1, 2024, Councilmember Moore introduced legislation that reinstates the previously repealed “prostitution loitering” law and establishes a new “Stay Out of Area Prostitution” (SOAP) zone along Aurora Ave North.
We work to end gender-based violence and promote equitable relationships through collective action for social change. We are concerned that the proposed legislation will roll back decades of collaborative work to build support and services for victims and survivors of sexual assault and trafficking.
We urge the Seattle City Council to drop this legislation and instead partner with us to co-create and invest in meaningful and effective safety strategies, including those that have already been proven to be effective, for all people experiencing violence in our communities.
