API CHAYA 29th Annual Vigil
API Chaya invites you to our 29th annual vigil, Kapwa: For Our Futures on March 7th, 2024 3pm-5pm at
the King County Courthouse Presiding Courtroom on the 9th floor.
Every year, API Chaya hosts a vigil to honor lives ended by domestic and sexual violence. This vigil
honors the lives of Susana Remerata Blackwell and her unborn baby Kristine, and her friends Phoebe
Orbiso Dizon and Veronica Laureta Johnson. All three were murdered by Susana’s abusive husband on
March 2nd, 1995 at the courthouse. Leading up to their deaths, Phoebe and Veronica supported Susana in
seeking services and care to keep her safe from the harm she was surviving.
This year the tagline of our vigil is, “For Our Futures”. This theme uplifts the past legacies of ensuring safe, thriving and empowered futures for our survivor communities. It also asks us to be in close alignment with our imaginations to consider what is possible now. For Our Futures invites us to ask ourselves, “How do we belong to our future?”, “How does API Chaya contribute to the future of
survivors?”, “What do you envision for the future of our anti-violence movement?” We hope you can join us as we continue to shape our futures together.
