SUMMARY:Gender-Based Violence Advocate Gathering - FALL EDITION
DESCRIPTION:This past April\, 72 advocates from 14 community-based agencies and 6 system-based entities came together at Renton City Hall to network\, participate in a resource mapping activity\, and hear a presentation on the basics of systems-based advocacy. We ran short on time so we didn’t even cover all the content we had planned! The feedback for this gathering was overwhelmingly positive and enthusiastic! So we’re doing it again!Join us for another in-person event where we’ll strengthen connections\, demystify the work of system-based and community-based advocates\, and continue to strategize on how to bridge gaps for survivors.Light breakfast and coffee/tea will be provided. \n\n\n\nCo-hosted and sponsored by:\n\n\n\nThe Coalition Ending Gender Based Violence and the King County VAWA STOP GrantFor questions\, contact lea@endgv.orgFor accommodation and language interpretation requests\, contact amy.bullard@kingcounty.gov by Oct 9th

SUMMARY:Embracing Empowered Intimacy: Fostering Positive Sexuality and Healthy Relationships for People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
DESCRIPTION:From the University of Washington HATC Education Forum \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis session will provide an overview of barriers to healthy relationships that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities face and look to break assumptions and misinformation about people’s ability to have healthy and fulfilling personal and sexual relationships. It will also provide guidance to disability support staff and advocates on how to support people with disabilities in accessing and maintaining safe and appropriate sexual and personal relationships. Romantic and intimate personal relationships are vital to healthy and fulfilling lives for all people\, and fostering healthy sexuality is often one of the best methods for preventing sexual abuse and violence. As practitioners and providers\, we have a responsibility to support people with disabilities to find fulfillment in their personal relationships as a means of mitigating risk of domestic and sexual assault and violence. \n\n\n\nPresented by Lindsay Piper\, BA\, MS\, MNLM\, Prevention Specialist at HATC
