DESCRIPTION:We will be joined by Camie Jae Goldhammer\, MSW\, LICSW\, IBCLC (Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate) from Hummingbird Indigenous Family Services. Camie is a devoted leader for Indigenous families locally and nationally. In this presentation\, she will discuss the power of unconditional community love as illustrated by Hummingbird Indigenous Family Services\, a Native non-profit serving Native mothers and babies throughout the Seattle area. Hummingbird was born out of a call from community members for an organization that could serve the urban Indigenous community’s moms and babies. Through their foundational BirthKeeper (Doula)\, Pilimakua Home Visiting\, and NEST (guaranteed income) programs\, they are working hard to care for Native families in their community. This is particularly true for Latinx survivors\, who face additional barriers such as language or fears of systems that may prevent them from seeking help when they experience sexual harassment or abuse.  \n\n\n\nKCSARC Dando Voz staff and guest panelists from Casa Latina\, Seattle Domestic Workers Standards Board\, Seattle OLS and the Washington Wage Claim Project will provide local historic perspective on how worker rights and freedoms from harassment were enacted\, what they guarantee\, and how Latinx workers can access support.  \n\n\n\nLearn why some workers\, such as hotel and domestic workers\, need specific safeguards\, support and reporting processes. This communal mapping process will help us to capture the many threads of GBV Homelessness response system that contributes to its overall landscape and current state. Journey Mapping serves to highlight critical intersections\, gaps as well as opportunities for capacity building.  \n\n\n\nWhat is our goal? \n\n\n\nOur aim is to leave this gathering with a clearer understanding of the many different identities and situations of which survivors enter homelessness\, are cycled through and/or bridged out of homelessness\, so that\, we may strengthen our coalition’s work to improve its overall functioning and health. We all know that there is a malnourished\, complex web of services that survivors must interact with\, and that the threads of this web must be better understood\, coordinated and invested in. Our goal as a GBV-Homelessness Collaborative\, is to help inform our government agencies\, so that they can not only plan better but also invest better. This exercise will direct us all as to how to move towards improved collaboration across systems\, future-state visioning and advocacy.  \n\n\n\nThis meeting is open to CEGV membership organizations\, homeless housing providers\, and other providers from adjacent systems interested in this intersection.

Doris O’Neal is currently the Director of Gender Based Violence Specialized Services. This training is specific to Victim Service Providers (VSPs): there will be a focus on enrolling de-identified clients. Please note the Prerequisites listed below. \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE\n\n\n\n\nPREREQUISITES: \n\n\n\n1. If you do not already have an HMIS user account\, your agency’s HMIS lead will need to request user access from Bitfocus (the host of HMIS)\, and you will need to complete the appropriate HMIS training. Don’t know who your agency’s HMIS Lead is? DESCRIPTION:Did you know that victims of violent crime\, including sexual assault\, domestic violence and child abuse\, could soon face severe delays or even lose access to support services altogether due to massive cuts in federal Victim of Crimes Act (VOCA) funding? \n\n\n\nThis important but volatile source of funding has been the backbone of victim services for many years. But VOCA\, which depends on forfeitures\, fines and settlements from federal crimes rather than tax dollars\, is both unpredictable and has been in decline since 2018. Adding to the injury\, VOCA was cut another 40% this year. \n\n\n\nFrankly\, our response to crime victims should not depend entirely on a single unstable resource like VOCA to fund crucial services like advocacy\, therapy and other assistance that survivors and family members need to rebuild their lives. \n\n\n\nState legislators have provided important one-time backfill in each of the last four years. Their partnership has helped stave off the most severe cuts to services. \n\n\n\nBut this one-time backfill runs out in June. At that point\, all community victim service providers\, including KCSARC\, face a funding cliff that threatens our collective ability to respond to every victim when they seek help. \n\n\n\nWe can’t fathom turning away any victim. And we won’t stand by and just let it happen. We need your help. \n\n\n\nTogether\, we can raise our voices loud and say “not on our watch!” \n\n\n\nJoin us in Seattle on December 7to urge the governor and state legislators to immediately stabilize and adequately fund victim services\n\n\n\nRally event detailsWe’ll gather at The Vera Project for activities and speakers at 11 a.m.Then\, we grab signs and march out onto Seattle Center and surrounds to draw attention to this crisis.We’ll be back in the next few weeks with more details and what you can expect by participating.
