DESCRIPTION:From the University of Washington HATC Education Forum \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis session will provide an overview of barriers to healthy relationships that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities face and look to break assumptions and misinformation about people’s ability to have healthy and fulfilling personal and sexual relationships. It will also provide guidance to disability support staff and advocates on how to support people with disabilities in accessing and maintaining safe and appropriate sexual and personal relationships. Romantic and intimate personal relationships are vital to healthy and fulfilling lives for all people\, and fostering healthy sexuality is often one of the best methods for preventing sexual abuse and violence. SUMMARY:More Than You Can Handle: How Religion Can Be Used in Intimate Partner Violence
DESCRIPTION:Many Christians have heard the saying\, “God won’t give you more than you can handle.” This is often said to those who are experiencing hardships\, trials\, and tribulations. This line comes from a verse in the Bible (1 Corinthians 10:13)\, but it is not talking about hard things in life\, but rather temptations. As a result of this misinterpretation\, it has been used to victim blame people who are experiencing harm. Implying that the abuse comes from God\, and that\, if one’s faith is “strong enough\,” they can handle it on their own. \n\n\n\nWe will not be arguing the merits of faith\, or the value of religion\, but rather looking at how Religious Trauma shows up in people’s relationships\, bodies\, and lives at large. This training will look at how scripture\, religious traditions\, and cultural norms are used to assert power and control in intimate relationships. How can someone’s faith can be weaponized against them to cause harm? We will also explore the specific impacts on LGBTQ+ individuals in\, and from religious communities. Coming away from this training you feel more comfortable working with both your religious clients and those who have left their faith communities.

This continuous dehumanization contributes to fat people being subjected to sexual violence.

This vigilhonors the lives of Susana Remerata Blackwell and her unborn baby Kristine\, and her friends PhoebeOrbiso Dizon and Veronica Laureta Johnson. All three were murdered by Susana’s abusive husband onMarch 2nd\, 1995 at the courthouse. Leading up to their deaths\, Phoebe and Veronica supported Susana inseeking services and care to keep her safe from the harm she was surviving. \n\n\n\nThis year the tagline of our vigil is\, “For Our Futures”. This theme uplifts the past legacies of ensuring safe\, thriving and empowered futures for our survivor communities. It also asks us to be in close alignment with our imaginations to consider what is possible now. For Our Futures invites us to ask ourselves\, “How do we belong to our future?”\, “How does API Chaya contribute to the future ofsurvivors?”\, “What do you envision for the future of our anti-violence movement?” We hope you can join us as we continue to shape our futures together.Please refer to the full program flier for program details.

NCO’s\, Civil PO’s and Family Law Restraining Orders. This presentation offers a general overview of the different types of orders that provide safety provisions and protection. We will identify the various orders\, differences and similarities\,a nd the unique processes for each.
