DESCRIPTION:CEGV is teaming up with Dr. Leticia Nieto for a multi-part series to add tools to your toolkit to handle the myriad challenges and complexities of advocacy.  \n\n\n\nOur work in the gender-based violence movement is full of nuance and complexity. The daily challenges and joys are set against a backdrop of systems of oppression and intersect in countless ways with other social justice issues. In short\, this work is not easy. \n\n\n\nJoin us for a series of interactive workshops with Dr. Leticia Nieto to find ways to better support yourself as advocate and in turn\, deepen your advocacy skills to better support survivors. Together we will explore these questions: \n\n\n\n\nHow can we better incorporate an anti-oppression lens in our advocacy practices?\n\n\n\nWhat are the ways to promote healing and liberation within our team and organizations?\n\n\n\n\nDr. Nieto is internationally recognized for her expertise addressing social justice concerns from a developmental ecological perspective including orienting to systemic transformation\, survivance\, song and poetry\, relational repair\, joy\, radical rest\, intersectional coalition\, and reparative and restorative justice. Dr. Nieto brings an enlivening approach to coaching\, training and facilitation\, drawing on expressive techniques and embodied practices to involve participants deeply and create opportunities for insight and change. Since 1980 she has successfully brought her skills to higher education and other learning communities (including three decades teaching in a graduate program in counseling)\, to service providers in helping agencies\, to workplace teams\, and to many community groups. \n\n\n\nIn this Skills Lab\, Dr. Nieto will offer practical tools and strategies for working with specific situations that present challenges in our work. They will be strengths-based\, action-oriented practice sessions based on Dr. Nieto’s book Beyond Inclusion\, Beyond Empowerment. \n\n\n\nObjectives \n\n\n\n\nParticipants will practice one strengths-based strategy in response to a real-life situation.\n\n\n\nParticipants will demonstrate the ability to analyze incidents at the behavioral\, systemic\, and transpersonal levels.\n\n\n\n\nContact Nykki Canete nykki@endgv.org or Lea Aromin lea@endgv.org for questions about the training and for accommodations.  \n\n\n\nCEUs available.

SUMMARY:Value Aligned Collaborative Supervision through Appreciative Inquiry 2025
DESCRIPTION:As we strive to create anti-racist value-aligned organizations\, supervision and supervisory relationships are a vital site of change. These relationships are at the core of most of our organizations and structure how we work together. In this training\, participants will learn a powerful new approach to supervision using an Appreciative Inquiry framework based in motivational research\, behavioral science\, and anti-racist anti-oppression values. This practice is relational and fosters collaboration\, innovation\, and creativity. Traditional management principles have an ugly and dehumanizing history that position the supervisor as the knower and the one most morally invested in the work being completed. Many performance management strategies still currently used by non-profits today are based in this frame. \n\n\n\nWhat: This Appreciative Inquiry Based model developed by Quantum Possibilities positions both supervisor and supervisee as knowers as it outlines a pathway for both to co-create a shared vision of success and co-design a plan to bring that vision into reality. Appreciative Inquiry is an inspiring\, growth-promoting\, and transformational philosophical and practical approach to frame\, take inventory\, envision\, plan\, and pursue meaningful change by building on past moments of joy\, connection\, and success. Understanding that change begins at the point of asking a question\, this model teaches supervisors to ask strategic questions that build meaningful relationships and catalyze connection to the work. A shared commitment to excellence that becomes foundational to building actionable plans focused on what matters most in the direction of fulfilling the organization’s mission. \n\n\n\nIn this training\, participants will:  \n\n\n\n\nLearn to apply a racial equity framework to supervision and create opportunities for power-with rather than power-over to foster collaboration.\n\n\n\n​Understand the role of collaboration in cultivating excellence\, preventing burnout and secondary trauma\, interrupting oppressions in the workplace.\n\n\n\nDevelop skills in applying psychological research on learning\, positive emotions and motivation to supervision practices.\n\n\n\nDevelop skills to foster authenticity and vulnerability that facilitate generative supervisory relationships.\n\n\n\nLearn the four elements of an Appreciative Inquiry approach to supervision and how to implement them.\n\n\n\n\nWho: This training is for staff at all levels across the Coalition’s membership: advocates\, managers\, directors\, volunteers\, but may be particulary relevant for those in formal leadership roles or those who want to be in formal leadership roles. Accommodation requests: If you have any accommodation requests\, please let us know no later than March 10th. \n\n\n\nAbout the Trainer: Martha Ramos Duffer\, Psy.D. is a licensed psychologist\, speaker\, trainer\, and consultant born in Mexico City\, raised in Puerto Rico\, and currently based in Austin\, Texas. DESCRIPTION:This Certification Training is virtual on April 23rd through 24th 10 am-2 pm. Participants must attend ALL sessions.  \n\n\n\nThis is a combined skills and policies training for community members from King County to gain certification to utilize the Youth Diversion Infrastructure Project. Participants will ground themselves in the spirit of diversion\, build skills in having diversion conversations\, and learn how to make requests for funds on behalf of eligible young people. Anyone can participate in this training\, regardless of prior diversion experience or working in a youth homeless serving agency.  \n\n\n\n*PLEASE NOTE if you do not work with young people in King County\, we ask that you register for one of the trainings targeting the community in which you are serving youth and young adults. DESCRIPTION:The Washington Address Confidentiality Program (ACP) offers survivors of domestic violence\, sexual assault\, stalking\, or trafficking\, and Criminal Justice Affiliates\, Election Officials\, and Protected Health Care Workers who are a target for threats or harassment\, a substitute mailing address to receive first class mail. The address is accepted by Washington state\, county\, and city government agencies in lieu of a residential address for creating records. \n\n\n\nACP is designed to help people who fear for their safety maintain a confidential address. Passed by legislature in 1991\, ACP is used as part of an overall safety plan to prevent perpetrators from locating participants through public records such as driver licenses\, voter registries and marriage records. \n\n\n\n\nASL Interpretation Available\n\n\n\n\nApplication Assistant Eligibility \n\n\n\nBy law\, only certain people are eligible to be an ACP Application Assistant. They must be an employee of a non-profit program or a state\, county\, or other local agency. Additionally\, it must be a part of their job to provide advocacy\, counseling\, referral\, or shelter services to victims of domestic violence\, sexual assault\, stalking\, or trafficking.

DESCRIPTION:Learn how to better support trans survivors in our communities through the Training Series: Supporting Trans Survivors of Gender-Based Violence. This is the first of three sessions in this series. \n\n\n\nThis series provides an overview of gender-based violence (GBV) in Two-Spirit\, Trans\, and Gender Diverse communities\, highlighting the scale of the issue through statistics\, research\, and the intersections of race\, class\, disability\, and neurodiversity. It explores the concept of trans misogyny\, including its role in the current political climate and the impact of widespread anti-trans misinformation\, while also equipping participants with foundational Trans 101 language and tools for continued learning. By the end of the training\, participants will understand the risk factors and barriers trans survivors face\, define trans misogyny within the GBV movement\, and feel more confident in implementing best practices to support Two-Spirit\, Trans\, and Gender Diverse survivors. \n\n\n\nSession 2: \n\n\n\nLearning Objectives: \n\n\n\n\nUnderstand the structural and cultural issues that contribute to IPV for trans people.\n\n\n\nBe able to identify the issues that impact Trans IPV survivors in marginalized communities such as immigration status\, disability & neurodivergence\, Two-Spirit and native communities.\n\n\n\nBe able to articulate the reasons Trans IPV survivors do and don’t seek services\, and ways to restructure & communicate a welcoming environment for Two-Spirit\, trans\, and gender diverse survivors.\n\n\n\nUnderstand the current legal protections for Two-Spirit\, Trans\, and Gender Diverse people in Local\, State\, and Federal Law.\n\n\n\nUnderstand Trans IPC specific screening tools\, safety planning tools\, and educational tools for working with Two-Spirit\, Trans\, and Gender-Diverse Survivors.\n\n\n\n\nSummary: This training provides an overview of gender-based violence (GBV) in Two-Spirit\, Trans\, and Gender Diverse communities\, exploring tools for advocacy\, structural and systems reasons survivors don’t seek support\, and legal protections. It explores an in-depth analysis of the sociocultural framework of Intimate Partner Violence and how it fails to incorporate transgender survivors. With specific context around advocacy with Two Spirit and immigrant transgender survivors\, participants will be exposed to an intersectional understanding of transgender IPV. By challenging the traditional frameworks of IPV service provision and exploring the barriers and challenges transgender survivors face in seeking service\, participants will walk away with a deeper understanding of the types of changes they can implement in their day to day advocacy as well as on an organizational level. \n\n\n\nOutcomes: This training will go beyond the basics\, we will delve deeper into the distinct issues that includes interpersonal and intimate partner violence for Two-Spirit\, Trans\, and Gender Diverse people. The training will look at the cultural and structural barriers that contribute to IPV for trans communities\, including increased lethality. We will also review barriers to services\, how to overcome those barriers\, and creating a welcoming environment for Two-Spirit\, Trans\, and Gender Diverse Survivors. We will also go over local\, state and federal laws protecting these populations so that advocates can support 2STGD survivors who experience discrimination. Finally\, we will ensure that attendees understand trans specific screening tools\, safety planning\, and available training materials for colleagues.

The daily challenges and joys are set against a backdrop of systems of oppression and intersect in countless ways with other social justice issues. In short\, this work is not easy. Over the next few months\, we are teaming up with Dr. Leticia Nieto to co-create collective virtual spaces to honor and process through the various emotional states and realities of this work.  For this offering\, bring your choice of artistic medium (pen and paper\, markers\, colored pencils\, paint\, etc.) and join us for this highly interactive workshop where we will collectively explore methods of creative restorative processing that promote healing and liberation with ourselves.As this is a highly interactive and relational workshop\, Dr. Nieto has provided some guidelines for co-creating an online culture of relational integrity and professionalism. \n\n\n\nCEUs available.

DESCRIPTION:In partnership with the Washington State Advanced Diversion Consultants & Trainers\, Africatown International\, and the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund\, Building Changes is coordinating intensive two-day Diversion trainings. These two-day trainings are free and will be offered multiple times in 2025. \n\n\n\nWhat is Diversion: Diversion offers flexible\, light-touch services that may be coupled with minimal financial assistance that results in a temporary or permanent housing arrangement outside of the homeless system. \n\n\n\nWho should attend: These trainings are accessible for everyone but will have particular relevance for homeless/housing assistance providers\, community-based partners working with people seeking services\, and representatives from systems adjacent to our homeless response system. Right now we are prioritizing trainings for providers working in King County\, WA. If you are outside of King County and would like to inquire about available spots in upcoming trainings\, or if you are are interested in scheduling a separate training for your community\, please contact Dimitri Groce\, Director of Practice Innovation at Building Changes. \n\n\n\nWhat will be covered: In this training\, participants will learn the Diversion approach and apply their skills through hands-on practice guided by experienced Diversion Coaches. The Diversion approach is intended to be a fast intervention applicable at any step in helping individuals and families identify immediate\, safe housing arrangements. It can be coupled with financial assistance for temporary or permanent housing arrangements outside of the homeless system. \n\n\n\nFormat: Each training is two days\, taking place 9:30 am–3:30 pm each day. Day 1 of the training will be virtual\, and Day 2 will be in person at Pacific Tower in Seattle.

DESCRIPTION:Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute – Grand Hall \n\n\n\n“For one of the most vital ways to sustain ourselves is by building communities of resistance\, places where we know we are not alone” -bell hooks \n\n\n\nLet’s name what’s happening: We are witnessing monumental abuses of power at the highest levels of government. The core values that hold up our work to end gender-based violence are under threat.  \n\n\n\nLet’s get together: It’s important now more than ever. Join us for another gathering of system-based and community-based advocates to continue to deepen our connections and practice collective care. \n\n\n\nLet’s get grounded: We already have the skills\, tools\, and expertise to cope and resist. Let’s look to the basic tenets of advocacy to get us through.  \n\n\n\nLet’s create space to replenish and find joy through art:  Tapping into art and creative expression can support healing and resilience. Join us for a collective art activity – no special skills required! Stay tuned for more details about the agenda!
