SUMMARY:Integrative Trauma and Healing Framework- Foundation Concepts
DESCRIPTION:The workshop offers foundational knowledge on trauma and trauma-informed practice for service providers. Topics include the Integrative Trauma Framework; neurophysiology and embodiment of trauma at multiple levels; interruptions of fundamentals: safety\, agency\, dignity\, and belonging; and\, pathways to healing. \n\n\n\nLearning Objectives\n\n\n\n\nExplore and define trauma using the Integrative Trauma & Healing Framework.\n\n\n\nLearn about embodiment and fundamentals: safety\, agency\, dignity\, and belonging.\n\n\n\nLearn pathways to healing and strategies for rebuilding fundamental needs.\n\n\n\n\nFacilitator Bios\n\n\n\nLeslie Briner\n\n\n\nFor over 20 years\, Leslie has served families experiencing homelessness\, youth with developmental disabilities\, youth in the foster care system and\, since 2005\, has worked with commercially sexually exploited (CSE) youth. She has designed\, implemented and directed services for sexually exploited and trafficked youth and developed comprehensive training on the topics of sexual exploitation and trafficking. To date\, she has trained over 7000 people as well as providing substantial technical assistance and consultation on these issues in Washington State and across the country. Leslie works as a consultant with YouthCare and operates Social Strategies\, a training and consulting practice based in Seattle\, Washington as well as being Associate Faculty at the University of Washington\, School of Social Work where she earned her Master’s in Social Work (MSW). \n\n\n\nTeddy McGlynn-Wright\n\n\n\nTeddy currently directs the Trauma Informed Schools Train the Trainer project in New Orleans. He is also a Belonging-Based Facilitator\, politicized healer and award-winning professor\, formerly of the UW School of Social Work. Recognizing that all interpersonal violence happens in the context of structural violence\, Teddy takes a body-based approach to healing and clearing secondary trauma in individuals and collectives\, whether the trauma is racialized or gendered\, interpersonal or institutional. DESCRIPTION:From the University of Washington HATC Education Forum \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis session will provide an overview of barriers to healthy relationships that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities face and look to break assumptions and misinformation about people’s ability to have healthy and fulfilling personal and sexual relationships. It will also provide guidance to disability support staff and advocates on how to support people with disabilities in accessing and maintaining safe and appropriate sexual and personal relationships. Romantic and intimate personal relationships are vital to healthy and fulfilling lives for all people\, and fostering healthy sexuality is often one of the best methods for preventing sexual abuse and violence. SUMMARY:More Than You Can Handle: How Religion Can Be Used in Intimate Partner Violence
DESCRIPTION:Many Christians have heard the saying\, “God won’t give you more than you can handle.” This is often said to those who are experiencing hardships\, trials\, and tribulations. This line comes from a verse in the Bible (1 Corinthians 10:13)\, but it is not talking about hard things in life\, but rather temptations. As a result of this misinterpretation\, it has been used to victim blame people who are experiencing harm. Implying that the abuse comes from God\, and that\, if one’s faith is “strong enough\,” they can handle it on their own. \n\n\n\nWe will not be arguing the merits of faith\, or the value of religion\, but rather looking at how Religious Trauma shows up in people’s relationships\, bodies\, and lives at large. This training will look at how scripture\, religious traditions\, and cultural norms are used to assert power and control in intimate relationships. How can someone’s faith can be weaponized against them to cause harm? We will also explore the specific impacts on LGBTQ+ individuals in\, and from religious communities. Coming away from this training you feel more comfortable working with both your religious clients and those who have left their faith communities.

This continuous dehumanization contributes to fat people being subjected to sexual violence.

DESCRIPTION:This is a space for advocates to explore and imagine what a stronger\, more collective system might look like in our work\, while collaboratively creating stronger connections to increase individual capacity. \n\n\n\nStrong relationships within our communities have the potential to increase our capacity both individually and systemically.  We hope to make this work more sustainable to better organize and meet survivor needs\, fill gaps in services\, and to share the joys and burdens of the systems we work within. Our intention is to provide a space for advocates to explore and imagine what a stronger\, more collective system might look like in our work\, while collaboratively creating stronger connections to increase individual capacity.We would like to continue the conversation from last month’s kickoff Advocate Connection Space and offer one last opportunity to connect before the year ends.  \n\n\n\nAs identified by advocates who joined last month\, some of the “why’s” of this space include: \n\n\n\n\nConnections to other advocates outside of your own organization \n\n\n\nGain familiarity of other programs and resources\n\n\n\nCreate natural partnerships\n\n\n\n\nFuture topics of the Advocate Connection Space include: burnout/turnover\, the importance of a “support group” format\, how to build each other up and play off our strengths\, and learning to balance supportive listening and boundaries with clients. \n\n\n\nPlease RSVP by emailing Abby at abby@endgv.org
