It will also provide guidance to disability support staff and advocates on how to support people with disabilities in accessing and maintaining safe and appropriate sexual and personal relationships. Romantic and intimate personal relationships are vital to healthy and fulfilling lives for all people\, and fostering healthy sexuality is often one of the best methods for preventing sexual abuse and violence. This continuous dehumanization contributes to fat people being subjected to sexual violence.

This vigilhonors the lives of Susana Remerata Blackwell and her unborn baby Kristine\, and her friends PhoebeOrbiso Dizon and Veronica Laureta Johnson. All three were murdered by Susana’s abusive husband onMarch 2nd\, 1995 at the courthouse. Leading up to their deaths\, Phoebe and Veronica supported Susana inseeking services and care to keep her safe from the harm she was surviving. \n\n\n\nThis year the tagline of our vigil is\, “For Our Futures”. This theme uplifts the past legacies of ensuring safe\, thriving and empowered futures for our survivor communities. It also asks us to be in close alignment with our imaginations to consider what is possible now. Camie is a devoted leader for Indigenous families locally and nationally. In this presentation\, she will discuss the power of unconditional community love as illustrated by Hummingbird Indigenous Family Services\, a Native non-profit serving Native mothers and babies throughout the Seattle area. Hummingbird was born out of a call from community members for an organization that could serve the urban Indigenous community’s moms and babies. Through their foundational BirthKeeper (Doula)\, Pilimakua Home Visiting\, and NEST (guaranteed income) programs\, they are working hard to care for Native families in their community. SUMMARY:Hispanic Heritage Month Webinar: Protecting workers from abuse
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by King County Sexual Assault Resource Center \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWorkers are protected from sexual harassment and abuse in the workplace by federal\, state and local laws. But many still find it difficult to actually report abuse and get support. This is particularly true for Latinx survivors\, who face additional barriers such as language or fears of systems that may prevent them from seeking help when they experience sexual harassment or abuse.  \n\n\n\nKCSARC Dando Voz staff and guest panelists from Casa Latina\, Seattle Domestic Workers Standards Board\, Seattle OLS and the Washington Wage Claim Project will provide local historic perspective on how worker rights and freedoms from harassment were enacted\, what they guarantee\, and how Latinx workers can access support.  \n\n\n\nLearn why some workers\, such as hotel and domestic workers\, need specific safeguards\, support and reporting processes. We’ll address what barriers remain\, and next steps we can take to protect workers.  \n\n\n\nProtegiendo a los trabajadores contra el abuso \n\n\n\nLas leyes federales\, estatales y locales protegen a los trabajadores contra el acoso sexual y el abuso en el lugar de trabajo. Sin embargo\, para muchos trabajadores sigue siendo difícil denunciar situaciones de abuso y recibir ayuda. Los trabajadores latinos en particular deben enfrentar obstáculos adicionales\, como las dificultades con el idioma y el temor a interactuar con ciertos sistemas\, lo que les impide pedir ayuda frente al acoso o abuso sexual.  \n\n\n\nUn grupo de panelistas invitados\, junto al personal bilingüe de KCSARC\, hablarán sobre las leyes locales que protegen los derechos y libertades de los trabajadores: su origen y alcance\, y cómo los trabajadores latinos pueden acceder a los beneficios de estas legislaciones.  \n\n\n\nDurante el encuentro hablaremos sobre por qué ciertos trabajadores\, como los empleados domésticos y el personal de hoteles\, necesitan protecciones y especiales a la hora de denunciar estas situaciones. También reflexionaremos sobre los obstáculos que aún permanecen y lo que todavía queda por hacer para proteger a los trabajadores.

Prior to that\, Mr. Jefferson was a public defense attorney in Thurston County for more than 16 years and previously worked as public defender in Kent and Seattle. He helped establish Thurston Count’s pretrial diversion program\, First Look program\, Trueblood Diversion program and Felony Leadership Improvement Project. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMichelle Osborne consults on antiracist leadership\, social justice practice\, and prevention of gender-based violence. A former prosecutor and trial attorney\, her expertise includes historic legacies of racism; the evolution of structural process\, policies\, and cultures; roles of women of color in positions of power and leadership and on organizations becoming racially equitable. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor more than 25 years\, Doris O’Neal has been dedicated to survivor-defined advocacy\, public policy\, and restorative justice\, with a focus on helping survivors who are African American\, living in poverty\, or experiencing housing instability. Doris O’Neal is currently the Director of Gender Based Violence Specialized Services. SUMMARY:Rally for Victims!
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that victims of violent crime\, including sexual assault\, domestic violence and child abuse\, could soon face severe delays or even lose access to support services altogether due to massive cuts in federal Victim of Crimes Act (VOCA) funding? \n\n\n\nThis important but volatile source of funding has been the backbone of victim services for many years. But VOCA\, which depends on forfeitures\, fines and settlements from federal crimes rather than tax dollars\, is both unpredictable and has been in decline since 2018. Adding to the injury\, VOCA was cut another 40% this year. \n\n\n\nFrankly\, our response to crime victims should not depend entirely on a single unstable resource like VOCA to fund crucial services like advocacy\, therapy and other assistance that survivors and family members need to rebuild their lives. \n\n\n\nState legislators have provided important one-time backfill in each of the last four years. Their partnership has helped stave off the most severe cuts to services. \n\n\n\nBut this one-time backfill runs out in June. At that point\, all community victim service providers\, including KCSARC\, face a funding cliff that threatens our collective ability to respond to every victim when they seek help. \n\n\n\nWe can’t fathom turning away any victim. And we won’t stand by and just let it happen. We need your help. \n\n\n\nTogether\, we can raise our voices loud and say “not on our watch!” \n\n\n\nJoin us in Seattle on December 7to urge the governor and state legislators to immediately stabilize and adequately fund victim services\n\n\n\nRally event detailsWe’ll gather at The Vera Project for activities and speakers at 11 a.m.Then\, we grab signs and march out onto Seattle Center and surrounds to draw attention to this crisis.We’ll be back in the next few weeks with more details and what you can expect by participating.
