SUMMARY:Seattle Book Launch "How to End Family Policing: From Outrage to Action"
DESCRIPTION:In a study titled\, “There’s No One I Can Trust”\, 50% of domestic violence survivors with direct experience of mandated reports said the mandated report made things much worse. Only 3% stated it made things much better. Additionally\, over 1 in 3 survivors stated they have not asked for help for fear of mandated reporting. \n\n\n\nWe must take seriously the harms of mandatory reporting practices on survivors\, especially those most impacted such as youth\, BIPOC\, and LGBTQ+ survivors. Our collective work requires upholding survivor self-determination. \n\n\n\nWe are honored to be a sponsor of the upcoming book launch of How to End Family Policing: From Outrage to Action (Haymarket). Join us as we hear from authors Shannon Perez-Darby and Shawn Koyano\, along with community organizers Såhi Velasco and Sully Sullivan\, for an evening of reading\, conversation\, and engagement! \n\n\n\nCopies of the book will be available to purchase at the event. For questions about the book contact Shannon@accountablecommunities.com \n\n\n\nThe library can provide accommodations for people with disabilities at library events. Please contact LEAP at least seven days before the event to request accommodations. \n\n\n\nNote-The library closes at 6:00 p.m. It will reopen at 6:15 pm for the event. Seating is first come\, first served for registered participants. All Library programs are free and open to the public.
