DESCRIPTION:Co-hosted by the Coalition Ending Gender-Based Violence (CEGV)\, King County Regional Homelessness Authority (KCRHA)\, and City of Seattle Human Services Department (HSD). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYWCA Phillis Wheatley Branch \n\n\n\n2820 E Cherry St Seattle 98122 \n\n\n\nJoin us for an afternoon of building relationships across homeless housing and gender-based violence systems!  \n\n\n\nHousing System navigators\, advocates\, and case managers are encouraged to attend! \n\n\n\nThis is the first in-person meeting for this newly formed group that aims to build relationships\, share resources\, and ultimately make recommendations to better meet the needs of survivors who are homeless and/or experiencing housing instability.  \n\n\n\n\n\nWhat will we be doing?\n\n\n\nWe will be conducting a Journey Mapping exercise: mapping the experiences of survivors as they navigate our specific systems and programs. Come prepared with 2-3 client scenarios that exemplify your agency’s sub-population expertise and convey the paths your clients navigate. \n\n\n\n\n\nBreakout groups will be by sub-population: you will work alongside other agency participants who serve the same GBV sub-population (i.e. Trans/Two Spirit\, Commercial Sexual Exploitation\, Families etc.).  You can best prepare for this by calling to mind 2-3 client scenarios which you feel exemplify both a.) your agency’s sub-population expertise and b.) will best convey the journey of clients within your area of expertise. \n\n\n\nWhy Journey Mapping? \n\n\n\nJourney mapping is an exercise that helps us to visualize a client’s journey through homelessness. This communal mapping process will help us to capture the many threads of GBV Homelessness response system that contributes to its overall landscape and current state. Journey Mapping serves to highlight critical intersections\, gaps as well as opportunities for capacity building.  \n\n\n\nWhat is our goal? \n\n\n\nOur aim is to leave this gathering with a clearer understanding of the many different identities and situations of which survivors enter homelessness\, are cycled through and/or bridged out of homelessness\, so that\, we may strengthen our coalition’s work to improve its overall functioning and health. We all know that there is a malnourished\, complex web of services that survivors must interact with\, and that the threads of this web must be better understood\, coordinated and invested in. Our goal as a GBV-Homelessness Collaborative\, is to help inform our government agencies\, so that they can not only plan better but also invest better. This exercise will direct us all as to how to move towards improved collaboration across systems\, future-state visioning and advocacy.  \n\n\n\nThis meeting is open to CEGV membership organizations\, homeless housing providers\, and other providers from adjacent systems interested in this intersection.

Prior to that\, Mr. Jefferson was a public defense attorney in Thurston County for more than 16 years and previously worked as public defender in Kent and Seattle. He helped establish Thurston Count’s pretrial diversion program\, First Look program\, Trueblood Diversion program and Felony Leadership Improvement Project. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMichelle Osborne consults on antiracist leadership\, social justice practice\, and prevention of gender-based violence. A former prosecutor and trial attorney\, her expertise includes historic legacies of racism; the evolution of structural process\, policies\, and cultures; roles of women of color in positions of power and leadership and on organizations becoming racially equitable. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor more than 25 years\, Doris O’Neal has been dedicated to survivor-defined advocacy\, public policy\, and restorative justice\, with a focus on helping survivors who are African American\, living in poverty\, or experiencing housing instability. Doris O’Neal is currently the Director of Gender Based Violence Specialized Services. We know that vicarious trauma can greatly impact our ability to make decisions that are in alignment with our values of transforming patriarchal cultures\, and that\, “caring for myself is not self-indulgence\, it is self-preservation and that is an act of political warfare.” – Audre Lorde \n\n\n\nOn November 8th at the Phyllis Wheatley YWCA\, we’ll be gathering for a day to FEEEEL rested and rejuvenated\, and relationshiped! Contact Hannah Whitworth at hannah@endgv.org \n\n\n\nWhat: King County Regional Homelessness Authority is hosting a training to access the Coordinated Entry System for users serving Gender-Based Violence survivors. This training will allow you to become a Coordinated Entry Assessor. You will be able to enroll your clients into the Coordinated Entry System and navigate them to housing stability. This training is specific to Victim Service Providers (VSPs): there will be a focus on enrolling de-identified clients. Please note the Prerequisites listed below. \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE\n\n\n\n\nPREREQUISITES: \n\n\n\n1. If you do not already have an HMIS user account\, your agency’s HMIS lead will need to request user access from Bitfocus (the host of HMIS)\, and you will need to complete the appropriate HMIS training. Don’t know who your agency’s HMIS Lead is? Ask Hannah at hannah@endgv.org. \n\n\n\n2. You’re ready to take this training! \n\n\n\nWho: Advocates and case managers functioning as Victim Service Providers at agencies with HMIS accounts who would like to \n\n\n\n\nServe as the initial contact point for the Coordinated Entry System and communicating eligibility for Coordinated Entry.\n\n\n\nExplore resources such as diversion or problem solving\, employment\, and education.\n\n\n\nEnroll households into the Coordinated Entry System Program and administer the Coordinated Entry Housing Triage Tool (HTT).\n\n\n\nCommunicate with households about next steps and availability of other resources.\n\n\n\n\nNext Steps: Upon completing the training requirements\, \n\n\n\n1. Review the CE Assessor Manual. \n\n\n\n2. Your Agency’s CE Trainer will email Bitfocus the New Assessor Request Form. If your agency does not have a CE trainer you can request from Bitfocus to become the CE Trainer. \n\n\n\n3. Confidentiality and privilege are essential to building the trust that can foster an effective and workable therapeutic relationship. Attendees will have the opportunity to consider how to balance ethical practices with legal\, so that counselors can uphold their clients’ trust while ensuring safety and compliance within professional standard. \n\n\n\nObjectives:  \n\n\n\n1. Define confidentiality and privilege in the context of counseling. \n\n\n\n2. Understand exceptions to confidentiality and privilege. \n\n\n\n3. DESCRIPTION:CEGV is teaming up with Dr. Leticia Nieto for a multi-part series to add tools to your toolkit to handle the myriad challenges and complexities of advocacy.  \n\n\n\nOur work in the gender-based violence movement is full of nuance and complexity. The daily challenges and joys are set against a backdrop of systems of oppression and intersect in countless ways with other social justice issues. In short\, this work is not easy. \n\n\n\nJoin us for a series of interactive workshops with Dr. Leticia Nieto to find ways to better support yourself as advocate and in turn\, deepen your advocacy skills to better support survivors. Together we will explore these questions: \n\n\n\n\nHow can we better incorporate an anti-oppression lens in our advocacy practices?\n\n\n\nWhat are the ways to promote healing and liberation within our team and organizations?\n\n\n\n\nDr. Nieto is internationally recognized for her expertise addressing social justice concerns from a developmental ecological perspective including orienting to systemic transformation\, survivance\, song and poetry\, relational repair\, joy\, radical rest\, intersectional coalition\, and reparative and restorative justice. Dr. Nieto brings an enlivening approach to coaching\, training and facilitation\, drawing on expressive techniques and embodied practices to involve participants deeply and create opportunities for insight and change. Since 1980 she has successfully brought her skills to higher education and other learning communities (including three decades teaching in a graduate program in counseling)\, to service providers in helping agencies\, to workplace teams\, and to many community groups. \n\n\n\nIn this Skills Lab\, Dr. Nieto will offer practical tools and strategies for working with specific situations that present challenges in our work. DESCRIPTION:As we strive to create anti-racist value-aligned organizations\, supervision and supervisory relationships are a vital site of change. These relationships are at the core of most of our organizations and structure how we work together. In this training\, participants will learn a powerful new approach to supervision using an Appreciative Inquiry framework based in motivational research\, behavioral science\, and anti-racist anti-oppression values. This practice is relational and fosters collaboration\, innovation\, and creativity. Traditional management principles have an ugly and dehumanizing history that position the supervisor as the knower and the one most morally invested in the work being completed. Many performance management strategies still currently used by non-profits today are based in this frame. \n\n\n\nWhat: This Appreciative Inquiry Based model developed by Quantum Possibilities positions both supervisor and supervisee as knowers as it outlines a pathway for both to co-create a shared vision of success and co-design a plan to bring that vision into reality. Appreciative Inquiry is an inspiring\, growth-promoting\, and transformational philosophical and practical approach to frame\, take inventory\, envision\, plan\, and pursue meaningful change by building on past moments of joy\, connection\, and success. Understanding that change begins at the point of asking a question\, this model teaches supervisors to ask strategic questions that build meaningful relationships and catalyze connection to the work. It explores an in-depth analysis of the sociocultural framework of Intimate Partner Violence and how it fails to incorporate transgender survivors. With specific context around advocacy with Two Spirit and immigrant transgender survivors\, participants will be exposed to an intersectional understanding of transgender IPV. By challenging the traditional frameworks of IPV service provision and exploring the barriers and challenges transgender survivors face in seeking service\, participants will walk away with a deeper understanding of the types of changes they can implement in their day to day advocacy as well as on an organizational level. \n\n\n\nOutcomes: This training will go beyond the basics\, we will delve deeper into the distinct issues that includes interpersonal and intimate partner violence for Two-Spirit\, Trans\, and Gender Diverse people. The training will look at the cultural and structural barriers that contribute to IPV for trans communities\, including increased lethality. We will also review barriers to services\, how to overcome those barriers\, and creating a welcoming environment for Two-Spirit\, Trans\, and Gender Diverse Survivors. We will also go over local\, state and federal laws protecting these populations so that advocates can support 2STGD survivors who experience discrimination. Finally\, we will ensure that attendees understand trans specific screening tools\, safety planning\, and available training materials for colleagues.

It explores the concept of trans misogyny\, including its role in the current political climate and the impact of widespread anti-trans misinformation\, while also equipping participants with foundational Trans 101 language and tools for continued learning. In short\, this work is not easy. \n\n\n\nJoin us for series of workshops with Dr. Leticia Nieto to find ways to better support yourself as advocate and in turn\, deepen your advocacy skills to better support survivors. SUMMARY:More Than You Can Handle: How Religion Can Be Used in Intimate Partner Violence
DESCRIPTION:Many Christians have heard the saying\, “God won’t give you more than you can handle.” This is often said to those who are experiencing hardships\, trials\, and tribulations. This line comes from a verse in the Bible (1 Corinthians 10:13)\, but it is not talking about hard things in life\, but rather temptations. As a result of this misinterpretation\, it has been used to victim blame people who are experiencing harm. Implying that the abuse comes from God\, and that\, if one’s faith is “strong enough\,” they can handle it on their own. We will not be arguing the merits of faith\, or the value of religion\, but rather looking at how Religious Trauma shows up in people’s relationships\, bodies\, and lives at large.  \n\n\n\nThis training will look at how scripture\, religious traditions\, and cultural norms are used to assert power and control in intimate relationships. How someone’s faith can be weaponized against them to cause harm. We will also explore the specific impacts on LGBTQ+ individuals in\, and from religious communities. Coming away from this training you feel more comfortable working with both your religious clients and those who have left their faith communities.  \n\n\n\nObjectives:  \n\n\n\n1. Breakdown the cycle of abuse in religious/spiritual contexts  \n\n\n\n2. Understand Religious Trauma and explore what it looks like in the nervous system  \n\n\n\n3. Recognize ways to support religious clients experiencing intimate partner violence  \n\n\n\n4. Identify special considerations for LGBTQ+ clients  \n\n\n\nTrainer Bio: Lindley King (they/them) is a Licensed Mental Health Therapist\, consultant\, and trainer in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. They have strived to bring healing in the field of gender-based violence since 2011\, holding multiple roles including shelter advocate\, crisis line advocate\, and therapist. They are currently in private practice serving adult survivors of gender-based violence and multi-abuse trauma. Their specialties include religious and spiritual trauma\, LGTBQ+ issues\, and gender identity. Lindley works from a harm reduction model and social justice framework. DESCRIPTION:More and more therapists are being asked to provide information or services specifically for family law purposes – especially when there are cross allegations of domestic violence and mental health concerns. \n\n\n\nAttorneys\, evaluators\, and/or the courts want to know what’s going on in therapy\, what someone said or didn’t say\, and how that impacts their current situation. Clients may or may not want you to provide information. You might believe your notes or opinions could help your client or conversely\, you might fear they could make things worse! So what do you do? \n\n\n\nJoin Fran Schopick and Tracee Parker for an overview of Family Court and how it can create very challenging dilemmas for mental health practitioners. We’ll explore the risks\, benefits\, and options that may be available to you and possible impacts on the care you provide. We will also review State laws\, agency rules\, documentation\, and potential threats to confidentiality to help you thoughtfully and confidently respond to court-related requests.  \n\n\n\nThis training is intended for mental health professionals\, including supervisors in the mental health field but could also be useful to domestic violence advocates who are supporting survivors through family court cases. \n\n\n\nLearning Objectives:As a result of this workshop\, participants will: \n\n\n\n\nUnderstand common Family Court terminology and the roles of various court-related professionals.\n\n\n\nHave increased knowledge of how Family Court can impact therapy.\n\n\n\nBe able to develop a thoughtful response to court-related requests from clients and others.\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Presenters: \n\n\n\nFrances Schopick\, JD\, MSW is an attorney with an extensive background in clinical Social Work and psychiatric research. She served on the Psychiatry Faculties at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in NYC and Harvard Medical School in Boston\, MA to research the underlying contributors seen in people with mood\, personality\, and psychotic disorders. She worked clinically with perpetrators as well as survivors of domestic violence and coercive control. Her experience has given her insights into the dynamics of high conflict families as well as the complex and nuanced challenges posed to the counselors who work with them.Now an attorney in WA State\, Fran represents health care providers undergoing Board investigations. To help licensees avoid such complaints\, Fran develops Disclosure and Informed Consent resources tailored to individual practice\, so that providers can simultaneously minimize counselor risk and maximize client care. Fran provides legal consultation to agencies\, counselors\, and other healthcare providers working with individual adults\, children\, couples\, and families\, often in “high conflict” situations. Fran speaks nationally on the importance of well-administered Informed Consent as well as the many factors that can affect clinical care. \n\n\n\nTracee Parker\, Psy.D. is the Justice for Families Project Manager at the Coalition Ending Gender-Based Violence\, where she has co-authored (with Dr. Anne Ganley) Intimate Partner Violence Impact Assessment – A process for collecting\, analyzing\, and presenting information. Her background includes domestic violence advocacy\, supervised visitation for domestic violence cases\, domestic violence perpetrator treatment\, training and consultation\, mediation\, nonviolent conflict resolution training\, and expert testimony. Her doctoral research focus was post-separation battering via access to children and working with men who batter.
