SUMMARY:March Skills Lab with Dr. Leticia Nieto: Adding Tools To Your Advocacy Toolkit
DESCRIPTION:CEGV is teaming up with Dr. Leticia Nieto for a multi-part series to add tools to your toolkit to handle the myriad challenges and complexities of advocacy.  \n\n\n\nOur work in the gender-based violence movement is full of nuance and complexity. The daily challenges and joys are set against a backdrop of systems of oppression and intersect in countless ways with other social justice issues. In short\, this work is not easy. \n\n\n\nJoin us for a series of interactive workshops with Dr. Leticia Nieto to find ways to better support yourself as advocate and in turn\, deepen your advocacy skills to better support survivors. Together we will explore these questions: \n\n\n\n\nHow can we better incorporate an anti-oppression lens in our advocacy practices?\n\n\n\nWhat are the ways to promote healing and liberation within our team and organizations?\n\n\n\n\nDr. Nieto is internationally recognized for her expertise addressing social justice concerns from a developmental ecological perspective including orienting to systemic transformation\, survivance\, song and poetry\, relational repair\, joy\, radical rest\, intersectional coalition\, and reparative and restorative justice. Dr. Nieto brings an enlivening approach to coaching\, training and facilitation\, drawing on expressive techniques and embodied practices to involve participants deeply and create opportunities for insight and change. Since 1980 she has successfully brought her skills to higher education and other learning communities (including three decades teaching in a graduate program in counseling)\, to service providers in helping agencies\, to workplace teams\, and to many community groups. \n\n\n\nIn this Skills Lab\, Dr. Nieto will offer practical tools and strategies for working with specific situations that present challenges in our work. They will be strengths-based\, action-oriented practice sessions based on Dr. Nieto’s book Beyond Inclusion\, Beyond Empowerment. \n\n\n\nObjectives \n\n\n\n\nParticipants will practice one strengths-based strategy in response to a real-life situation.\n\n\n\nParticipants will demonstrate the ability to analyze incidents at the behavioral\, systemic\, and transpersonal levels.\n\n\n\n\nContact Nykki Canete nykki@endgv.org or Lea Aromin lea@endgv.org for questions about the training and for accommodations.  \n\n\n\nCEUs available.

DESCRIPTION:Learn how to better support trans survivors in our communities through the Training Series: Supporting Trans Survivors of Gender-Based Violence. This is the first of three sessions in this series. \n\n\n\nThis series provides an overview of gender-based violence (GBV) in Two-Spirit\, Trans\, and Gender Diverse communities\, highlighting the scale of the issue through statistics\, research\, and the intersections of race\, class\, disability\, and neurodiversity. It explores the concept of trans misogyny\, including its role in the current political climate and the impact of widespread anti-trans misinformation\, while also equipping participants with foundational Trans 101 language and tools for continued learning. By the end of the training\, participants will understand the risk factors and barriers trans survivors face\, define trans misogyny within the GBV movement\, and feel more confident in implementing best practices to support Two-Spirit\, Trans\, and Gender Diverse survivors. \n\n\n\nSession 1: A Trans GBV Primer \n\n\n\n\nUnderstand the rates of GBV Amongst Trans & Non-Binary Folks.\n\n\n\nUnderstanding the diversity of identities in TwoSpirit\, Trans\, and Gender Diverse Communities.\n\n\n\nUnderstanding How transphobia & Trans misogyny impacts GBV for trans people.\n\n\n\nBe able to Define Trans Misogyny in the context of the GBV movement\n\n\n\nIn this political moment how trans women are being framed as always abusers or threats to other women.\n\n\n\nUnderstand best practices in working with Two-Spirit\, Trans\, and Gender Diverse peoples

SUMMARY:Value Aligned Collaborative Supervision through Appreciative Inquiry 2025
DESCRIPTION:As we strive to create anti-racist value-aligned organizations\, supervision and supervisory relationships are a vital site of change. These relationships are at the core of most of our organizations and structure how we work together. In this training\, participants will learn a powerful new approach to supervision using an Appreciative Inquiry framework based in motivational research\, behavioral science\, and anti-racist anti-oppression values. This practice is relational and fosters collaboration\, innovation\, and creativity. Traditional management principles have an ugly and dehumanizing history that position the supervisor as the knower and the one most morally invested in the work being completed. Many performance management strategies still currently used by non-profits today are based in this frame. \n\n\n\nWhat: This Appreciative Inquiry Based model developed by Quantum Possibilities positions both supervisor and supervisee as knowers as it outlines a pathway for both to co-create a shared vision of success and co-design a plan to bring that vision into reality. Appreciative Inquiry is an inspiring\, growth-promoting\, and transformational philosophical and practical approach to frame\, take inventory\, envision\, plan\, and pursue meaningful change by building on past moments of joy\, connection\, and success. Understanding that change begins at the point of asking a question\, this model teaches supervisors to ask strategic questions that build meaningful relationships and catalyze connection to the work. A shared commitment to excellence that becomes foundational to building actionable plans focused on what matters most in the direction of fulfilling the organization’s mission. \n\n\n\nIn this training\, participants will:  \n\n\n\n\nLearn to apply a racial equity framework to supervision and create opportunities for power-with rather than power-over to foster collaboration.\n\n\n\n​Understand the role of collaboration in cultivating excellence\, preventing burnout and secondary trauma\, interrupting oppressions in the workplace.\n\n\n\nDevelop skills in applying psychological research on learning\, positive emotions and motivation to supervision practices.\n\n\n\nDevelop skills to foster authenticity and vulnerability that facilitate generative supervisory relationships.\n\n\n\nLearn the four elements of an Appreciative Inquiry approach to supervision and how to implement them.\n\n\n\n\nWho: This training is for staff at all levels across the Coalition’s membership: advocates\, managers\, directors\, volunteers\, but may be particulary relevant for those in formal leadership roles or those who want to be in formal leadership roles. Accommodation requests: If you have any accommodation requests\, please let us know no later than March 10th. \n\n\n\nAbout the Trainer: Martha Ramos Duffer\, Psy.D. is a licensed psychologist\, speaker\, trainer\, and consultant born in Mexico City\, raised in Puerto Rico\, and currently based in Austin\, Texas.
